Three Whispers, 2024
Kinetic shadow installation: marker on celluloid, rotating mechanisms, dimensions variable.
Site-specific installation located in the historical Sasayaki Shrine in Omachi, Japan.
The title of the piece references the place, as sasayaki means "whisper" in Japanese. The artist engages with the architecture by creating a traceless, moving fresco drawing across the walls. Images drawn from the artist's fairytales intertwine with abstract elements in a continuous line. Reflecting the characteristics of traditional Japanese housing where the threshold between interior and exterior is fluid and at times almost imperceptible, the fresco extends beyond the house and into the street. As it unfolds through shifting shadows, the materiality of the house gradually dissolves.
This installation was part of the Northern Alps Art Festival, 2024.
